Shenac Twiggs RBSA
Shenac creates enigmatic hand built ceramic figure heads that are ambiguous yet familiar. Each figure head displays profound characteristics. At first, they appear unrelated to anyone we know. But gradually, we interpret – or figure out – those features that represent an essential part of the nature of an individual, giving a subtle sense of familiarity and narrative.
Shenac’s hand-built ceramic sculptures & vessels explore and interpret the organic structure of nature and coastline – through form pattern and texture.
Using her own family as inspiration for some of her linocuts, Shenac captures those incidental, intimate everyday moments of life, which so often go unnoticed & unappreciated.
Patterns within both the urban & rural landscape, are simplified into blocks of colour and line, giving form to the rhythms of place, creating clean, spacious compositions with dynamic statements of colour.
The overlooked aspects of the everyday, together with a bold, contemporary style of strong graphic shapes, contrasts & edges, create a clean uncluttered image within Shenac’s still-life linocuts, giving new life to cherished possessions, creating the new, from the old.
Shenac is a fully elected member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) and a member of the Crafts Council Directory.
