Mia Sarosi

Mia has been making and painting ceramics since 1991. She received a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) award in 2004 and now works from her Oxfordshire studio in Chalgrove.

‘I am interested in the relationship between art and functionality in the vessels we use in our homes every day. They are not intended as gallery pieces, but as useable art. My past influences, including Delftware and country pottery production principles result in fully considered forms and decoration, but expressed with freedom and looseness. Above all I respect my medium of porcelain for its beautiful white colour and durability, the best ground to show my brushwork decoration in all its forms.’

Mia makes each pot individually by throwing on the potter’s wheel and painting with freehand brushwork. There are no moulds or transfers used. The handmade process means each piece is unique, it’s own tiny quirks and imperfections are the record of its time consuming journey through over a dozen separate making processes.

I was lucky enough to find myself at Fosse House Gallery a few weeks ago. The knowledgeable and friendly owner Shenac, has a wonderful eye and her creative space was packed full of delightful art and gifts. I couldn’t resist leaving without several packets of her delightful signature ‘bee’ cards. I will definitely be back.

Just had 2 pictures framed of my artwork and am SO pleased with how professional they now look! Jonny was so helpful and took time helping me choose the right frame & knew exactly what I wanted. I’m a novice at this, but Jonny made me feel not only great for such a good job he made on framing my work, but gave my confidence a bit of a boost! Definitely bringing my artwork here again. Thanks Jonny! See you soon! Give Sox a cuddle from me.

Thanks for doing such a great job with the Hockney print. It’s now hanging in the hall for all to see and looks fabulous.
