painter
Marina Meredith-Owen
I was born in France but from Italian parents and now married to an Englishman and so based in Warwickshire.
I am mainly self taught, though influenced by a lot of painters, including Matisse, Picasso, Mary Fedden, Ann Redpath and the American expressionists.
I start a painting by putting blocks of color on the canvas with big brushes and carry on putting paint on till I am satisfied with the result. I never know in advance what the painting will look like as I completly immerse myself in the sensuality of the colors and the shapes, trying to create a sense of joy and mystery. I use and reuse the same motifs, like jugs, fruits, a table or flowers, which I paint from memory so as to give them an emotional response rather than just drawing them as they are.
